Kurt Jewson Announces Release of Debut EP “Working Sail”
March 2025 – Falmouth, Cornwall – Kurt Jewson, who’s self-deprecating tagline of ‘3 chords & a capo’, is proud to announce the release of his long overdue debut EP, Working Sail, on 25th April, 2025. This collection of five original tracks takes the listener on a captivating acoustic journey, through songs inspired by his upbringing in the Cornish harbour town of Porthleven in the 1970’s, where his dad was a fisherman, and his mum ran a tiny grocery shop. The townsfolk, and the scruffy grit of his childhood, are at the heart of his storytelling.
Working Sail touches on relationships between characters depicted in Jewson’s music. In ‘Take me with you’ he tells of his desperation as a small child wanting his dad to take him out on his boat, to haul the crab pots in. In ‘This Old Fisherman’ he continues the emotive theme, focusing this time on a life-defining moment when a friend of his father’s got tangled up in fishing gear and dragged overboard, nearly drowning.
There are lighter touches. ‘Every seventh wave’ is a shimmering, towering love song depicting a relationship as the fabled largest and most powerful wave in any set. And ‘Laura’s dream’ see’s the song’s protagonist yearning for a simpler time and a utopian world.
The EP’s songs are deeply rooted in themes of belonging, relationships and the powerful connection between man and sea. Each track paints vivid scenes of life along coastal waters, the stories of sailors, and the timeless rhythm of the ocean.
“I’ve always found that I’m drawn to the sea,” said Kurt. “The harbours and fishing communities, the storms, the glorious colours of a summertime low tide. This EP is an exploration of a connection with the sea and the way it shapes lives, both as individuals and communities.”
Working Sail showcases Jewson’s signature blend of evocative lyrics, crunchy acoustic guitar work, and heartfelt vocals. Drawing on a mix of traditional folk influences and
contemporary acoustic arrangements, Working Sail is a stirring exploration of a soul with ‘salt spray in their bones’.
Working Sail will be available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp. For more information visit www.kurtjewson.com
